There are two major techniques of searching for audio files on the Net: by browsing through sites and through the use of download programs.
First, the traditional way to search for music downloads is by browsing through web pages. In this method, all you need is an Internet browser such as Mozilla Firefox. You can choose to randomly visit websites beginning from a specific home page or use a search engine like the ones in the Google and MSN sites. Searching for music downloads by surfing through websites can be time-consuming. However, through this method, you can view the necessary information such as the number of people who have acquired the song and its file size and audio format. In addition, you can determine at once whether or not the music download is free.
The second way to search for music downloads is through the use of a specific type of software. These applications, aptly named music download programs, are designed to simplify the process of finding the songs you want to have. How do these software work? Basically, after loading the program, you can access a search function that is a standard feature in this type of software. It usually consists of a text box wherein you can type the name of the artist and/or the title of the song you want to download as well as buttons for starting and canceling the search. Music download programs are relatively small, ranging from 5 to 30 megabytes. In terms of cost, some of these software are free while others are still needed to be purchased.
